Last Time Out
The Ithaca College women's volleyball team got off to a solid start to the 2016 campaign, posting a 2-2 record at the ultra-competitive North Country Season Opener Tournament. The Bombers earned a split on both days, securing straight-sets wins over both St. Lawrence and No. 20 Clarkson on Friday and Saturday, respectively. IC also played a competitive match against No. 3 Juniata, taking the Eagles to a decisive fifth set.

Noteworthy Victory
The Bombers concluded this past weekend's tournament in emphatic style when they blitzed the 20th-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights for a straight-sets 3-0 victory. The win was the program's first over a nationally-ranked opponent in the AVCA poll since a four-set triumph over rival SUNY Cortland during the 2005 season. The victory also marked IC as the first in-region team to secure a win over Clarkson dating back to October of 2012; snapping a run of over 150 wins over in-region competition by the Golden Knights.

Even Distribution
This past weekend marked the first unveiling of first-year head coach Johan Dulfer's newly-implemented system in competitive matches. Running a six-two rotation with his two talented setters, Kayla Gromen and Caitlyn Floyd, the Bombers did an excellent job of filtering the attack through a variety of outlets. Six IC players recorded 50-or-more attacks over this past weekend. Joelle Goldstein was IC's go-to option, leading the team with 37 kills on 109 total attacks. Amanda Cerruti and Katie Evans each finished the four-match weekend with 27 kills apiece, while Caroline Gerulskis, Taylor McCarthy, and Hailey Adler all made significant contributions.

Scouting Oswego State
The Lakers also opened up its 2016 campaign this past weekend, as it hosted a trio of opponents on its home court. Oswego State took down the College of New Rochelle in four sets to begin the weekend set on Friday. The team followed that victory with two more on Saturday, besting Sage in straight sets and Anna Maria in four frames. Sophomore Ariel Murawski was the Lakers primary attacking outlet, coming into this evening with a team-leading 33 kills and 82 total attacks. Senior Emma Moriarty is formidable on the outside as well, entering the day with 24 kills. The senior combination of Lauren Edwards and Lindsey Champitto directs the attack, racking up 49 and 46 assists, respectively.

Looking Ahead
The Bombers hit the road for another tournament this coming weekend. IC will invade the Keystone State for four matches over two days at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. Ithaca opens the two-day event on Friday, September 9, as it faces University of Scranton and DeSales University at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., respectively.
