ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team scored a season-high four goals and earned its first win of the 2016 season on Saturday as the Bombers shutout Marywood, 4-0, at Pacers Field in Scranton, Pa. With the win, Ithaca improved to 1-3-0 on the season while the Pacers slipped to 1-2-0 overall.
Ithaca was led by
Nathan Schoen and
Alexander Brosnihan as each found the back of the net twice. In all, the Bombers took a season-high 18 shots including 10 on goal while earning six corner kick opportunities.
Zach Jacobsen picked up his first shutout win of the season after making four saves in net over 90 minutes of play.Â
Schoen started the scoring for Ithaca in the 19th minute after heading a corner kick feed off the foot of
Sam Boylan into the net.Â
Kevin Turi was credited with an assist on the play as well after tapping the ball to Schoen.
Ithaca would add to its lead just before intermission when Brosnihan buried his first goal of the season in the 39th minute after redirecting a feed from Boylan near the 15-yard line.
Up 2-0 in the 49th minute, Brosnihan struck again, this time blasting a shot into the top-right corner of the cage for his second tally of the game.Â
Kevin Turi was given his second helper of the game after feeding Brosnihan on the right side.
After swapping ends of the field over the next few minutes, the Bombers notched their fourth goal of the contest in the 56th minute as Schoen corralled a crossing pass from
Scott Halpern before beating the Pacers' goalie to give Ithaca a 4-0 advantage.
Ithaca's four goal outburst was its highest total since September 19, 2015 when the Bombers blanked Utica, 4-0. Â The last time Ithaca tallied five assists in a single game was in 2004 against Nazareth.Â
The Bombers will play in front of its home fans for the first time this season at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when they host Wells at Carp Wood Field. Â
