Boylan, Schoen of Men's Soccer Score in 2-0 Win Over Wells

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team notched its second consecutive shutout as the Bombers defeated Wells College, 2-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Carp Wood Field.  With the win, Ithaca moved to 2-3-0 while the Express suffered their first loss of the season and are now 1-1-2 overall.

Ithaca got off to a quick start as Nathan Schoen headed in the game's first goal in the 10th minute after a well-timed leap on a corner kick from Sam Boylan staked the Bombers to a 1-0 lead.

The Bombers looked to add to their lead as the half wore on, peppering the Wells' keeper with eight first-half shots but the Express defense held Ithaca at bay as the first half closed with Ithaca still holding a one goal advantage.

In the second half, Wells came out energized with three shots on goal over the first 10 minutes.  Its best to net the equalizer in the 58th minute after a beating Ithaca's defensive line to a ball, but Zach Jacobsen hustled to the top of the box and dove to turn the shot aside and preserve the Bombers' lead.

The tide turned in Ithaca's favor in the 62nd minute after Kevin Turi broke lose just outside the box before being dragged to the ground to set a free kick.  Boylan took the kick and struck it just past the Wells' keeper to give Ithaca a 2-0 lead.

The Bombers' defense would turn up the intensity as the second half wore on and surrendered just one shot over the final 30 minutes of play.

Jacobsen was credited with the win in goal after making two saves in 90 minutes.  The senior keeper moved to 2-2-0 overall.

Ithaca took a season-high 20 shots in the win and had five corners.

The Bombers will look to make it three wins in a row at 12 p.m. on Sunday when they open Empire 8 play against Stevens Institute of Technology at Carp Wood Field.
