ORANGE, Calif. – The Ithaca College baseball team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Thursday with a 10-2 loss at Chapman University at W.O. Hart Park in Orange, Calif. Ithaca is now 6-5 on the season, while Chapman improves to 8-9.
The Bombers only managed three hits offensively and gave up four unearned runs (all in the first inning) in the contest.
Chapman put up four runs in the bottom of the first on three hits and two Ithaca errors. After Chapman's first batter was retired, the Bombers committed back-to-back errors, and the Panthers followed with three straight hits to bring in three runs. The final run scored on a groundout.
The Panthers extended their lead to 5-0 in the third after a lead-off single stole his way to third base and came in on a single, but Ithaca got that run back in the fourth on a wild pitch that allowed junior
Trevor Thompson to score.
Thompson led off the frame with a base hit and made his way to third base on consecutive groundouts. After that, Ithaca loaded the bases, but another groundout ended the inning.
After a run in the bottom half of the fifth by Chapman, Ithaca used an RBI groundout from freshman
Jake Generali to bring in classmate
Adam Gallagher to make the score 6-2. The Panthers would respond in their half of the seventh with a two-run double to push their lead back out to 8-2.
Two more runs would cross for the Panthers in the eight to account for the final score.
Thompson went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored, while senior
John Stanley tallied the other hit in a 1-for-2 evening. Gallagher walked twice and scored a run.
Senior
Benji Parkes was dealt the loss in five innings pitched with three strikeouts. Parkes gave up six runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks. Freshman
Josh Carney threw the final three innings and allowed four runs on four hits.
