Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lax Rides Dominant Defense to 19-3 Win

TAMPA, Fla. — Four different student-athletes scored three or more goals and a stifling Ithaca College defense held Colorado College scoreless for nearly 50 minutes as the men's lacrosse team picked up a 19-3 win Tuesday night at the University of Tampa.

Sophomore Jake Cotton scored four goals with two assists, classmate Stephen Morrell scored a career-high four goals, freshman Owen Smith scored four points on three goals with an assist, and sophomore David Drozjock added three goals as the Bombers (4-1) won the opener of their annual Spring Break trip.

Ithaca eclipsed 16 goals in a game for the fourth time in five games while holding Colorado (5-3) scoreless for a span of 49:51.

Sophomore Kaelan Fitzpatrick added four points on one goal with three assists, freshman Will Witter had a goal with two assists, freshman Connor Hulme scored twice, and freshman Josh Della Puca handed out two assists as Ithaca registered 11 assists on 19 goals.

Defensively, senior All-American Eli Gobrecht caused four turnovers, junior Cody Swing caused three turnovers, and sophomores Keith Morrissey and Winston Wenham caused two turnovers apiece for the stingy Ithaca defense.

Senior Scott Sidnam allowed only one goal and made eight saves in 51:50 of action to earn his fourth win in five games.

Junior midfielder Grant Osadchey won 75 percent of his faceoffs (8 of 12), while sophomore midfielder Steven Landspurg won 64.3 percent (9 of 14) as the Bombers won 65.4 percent of their faceoffs (17 of 26).

Ithaca enjoyed a 58-22 advantage in shots, and a 43-25 edge in groundballs. Osadchey collected eight groundballs, and Gobrecht and Sidnam added four apiece to lead IC.

Trailing 1-0 following Eric Neumeyer's unassisted goal 5:22 into the contest, Ithaca responded with 18 unanswered goals spanning the first, second, third, and fourth quarters.

Morrell and Drozjock scored goals later in the first as IC took a 2-1 lead into the second stanza before the potent Bombers' attack put up nine second-quarter tallies. Cotton scored three times, Drozjock and Morrell added two goals, and Smith and Hulme each added a goal as Ithaca took an 11-1 lead to halftime.

Witter and Fitzpatrick added two assists each during the quarter for Ithaca, which broke open the contest thanks to six goals during a span of 5:38 in the second.

Five different student-athletes scored goals to start the third, and Hulme and Smith added tallies in the fourth to give the Bombers an 18-1 lead with 6:27 remaining.

Ithaca wraps up its annual Spring Break trip with a 7:30 p.m. clash with Babson College Thursday night.Â
