Four Bombers Reach Double Figures as Ithaca Tops Vassar, 73-52

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team never trailed host Vassar College on Saturday afternoon en route to a 73-52 victory. With the win, Ithaca is now 5-1 on the year, while Vassar drops to 3-4.

Junior Erin Woop got things started for the Bombers, as she drilled a 3-pointer to open up the scoring at the 8:31 mark of the first quarter, which propelled IC to a 19-9 lead after one period of play. Classmate Julie Yacovoni scored six of her team-high 14 points in the first stanza.

The second quarter was nearly identical to the first as Ithaca outscored the Brewers, 17-9, and took a 36-18 lead to halftime. Ithaca held onto a double-digit lead for all but 26 seconds in the quarter when Vassar capitalized on a turnover to cut the difference to 21-13 with 7:19 left. Over the final 5:16 of the stanza, junior Jordan Beers all nine of her points in the contest.

In the third period, Ithaca established its first 20-point cushion, 43-22, on a layup from Erin Ferguson with 6:48 left on the clock. Vassar could only get to within 19 points for the remainder of the game.

The Bombers' largest lead of the showdown was 29 points, 60-31, that came on a 3-pointer by senior Ali Ricchiuti on their opening possession of the fourth quarter.

Ferguson netted 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Ricchiuti added 12 points and four steals, while Woop scored a career-high 11 points with five assists and four boards.

Sophomore Meghan Pickell chipped in eight points, while sophomore Sara Jackson (four) and freshman Sarah Cargill (two) accounted for Ithaca's other six points in the contest.

The Bombers shot 45.5-percent from the field (30-for-66) and were 8-for-9 at the free throw line. IC also enjoyed a 42-34 advantage in rebounds and scored 28 points off 29 Vassar turnovers.

Ithaca returns back to South Hill on Tuesday, December 6 for a non-conference meeting with Wells College at 6 p.m.
