RESULTS
ITHACA, N.Y. —Junior
Jimmy Kaishian won both of his matches Saturday as the nationally-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team split a pair of duals against Delaware Valley and Binghamton University.
Ithaca (11-5), ranked ninth in the country by the National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) defeated Delaware Valley by a score of 43-4 before falling in the day's second match, 36-6 against Division I Binghamton inside the Ben Light Gymnasium.
Hosting Delaware Valley, the Bombers won the first nine bouts with three pins, one technical fall, and two major decisions included in the spurt.
Kaishian, a co-captain, set the tone for the match with Delaware Valley, scoring early and often en route to a 24-7 technical fall win in seven minutes at 125 pounds.
Sophomore
Bryan Israel earned a 9-1 major decision victory at 133, and junior
Nick Wahba followed with a 7-3 decision victory at 141.
Senior
Dan Pak pounced on his opponent at 149 early and emerged with a pin in 1:14, and classmate
Eamonn Gaffney added a 6-0 win on decision at 157 as the Bombers raced out to a 21-0 lead.
Sophomore
Nick Velez recorded another early-bout pin, winning in 1:30 at 165. Sophomore
Jaison White won on a medical forfeit at 174 before junior
Carlos Toribio emerged with a dominant 9-1, major decision triumph at 184.
At 197, freshman
Jake Ashcraft, the reigning Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Rookie of the Week, secured a pin in 5:52 for his 26th win of the year, which ranks second on the squad.
Ithaca suffered its only loss of the dual at 285 to complete the scoring.
Facing the Bearcats, Kaishian once again started off strong, securing a pin in 4:38 to win at 125 for his team-leading 32nd win of the year.
But the Bombers dropped the final nine bouts against Binghamton as the Bearcats snapped Ithaca's five-match home winning streak in duals dating to the 2014-15 season.
Among the rest of the matches, Israel hung tough at 133 before being pinned with four seconds remaining in the match, and Wahba went to overtime at 141 before falling 7-3.
In a back-and-forth contest, Pak suffered a tough 3-2 loss at 149, and Toribio, facing Steve Schneider, ranked 19
th in the country, fought hard before dropping a 4-0 decision at 184.
Ithaca returns to action Feb. 6, competing against Williams (Mass.) College and Oneonta at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6.
