No. 9 Wrestling Wins at Thiel for IC's 4th Team Title

GREENVILLE, Pa. —
The nationally-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team captured the team championship during Saturday's annual Mel Berry Duals at Thiel College as the Bombers won their fourth team title during the 2015-16 school year.

The Bombers (9-4), ranked ninth in the country by the National Wrestling Coaches' Association poll, defeated No. 18 Baldwin Wallace by a score of 22-9 before blanking Mercyhurst North East, 50-0, and dominating host Thiel 41-7 to claim the team championship.

Taking on Baldwin Wallace, junior co-captain Jimmy Kaishian (125) held off Chris Doyle 3-2, junior Nick Wahba (141) decisioned Zach Taylor 10-5, sophomore Nick Velez (165) earned a major decision, 17-5 over Jimmy Sandlin, and junior Carlos Toribio (184) defeated Ben Lebrun 7-4 as Ithaca knocked off a nationally-ranked team for the fifth time.

Senior co-captain Eamonn Gaffney won a 13-9 decision over Grant Gaffney at 157, freshman Jake Ashcraft prevailed 5-1 in sudden victory overtime at 197, and junior Matt Booth earned a 3-2 decision over Joe Belford at 285 to complete the scoring for Ithaca.

Against Mercyhurst North East, Ithaca earned three wins by forfeit in recording its first shutout of the year.

Wahba earned a 7-3 decision vs. Mason Bryne at 141, Velez won a 5-3 decision over Sam Colebert at 165, and Toribio pinned Garrett Smead in 2:06 to win at 184.

Ashcraft earned a pin in 1:04 against Tyler Mattison at 197, sophomore Nik Hansen pinned Bryant Vannoy in 1:54 at 174, freshman Jake O'Brien earned a 17-1 technical fall win at 285, and classmate Anthony Fano defeated Brandon Ingram 5-2 to win at 157 to spark the Bombers.

Facing host Thiel, Ithaca recorded three wins on a pin, two major decision victories, and a pair of technical fall wins.

Kaishian won a 19-4 technical fall victory against Justin Walter at 125, while Velez earned a 16-0 technical fall win over Nick Guzma at 165. Wahba pinned Nick Burkett in 2:26 at 141, senior Zack Conner pinned Tyler Wright in 0:50 at 197, and Booth pinned Alex Streich in 0:57 to win at 285.

Sophomore Bryan Israel posted a 17-3 major decision win over Lance Waters at 133, and classmate Jaison White earned a 3-2 decision over Dominic Farabaugh at 174 to close out the scoring for the Bombers.

Ithaca hosts a quad meet this Friday and Saturday. The Bombers host Nassau Community College at 7 p.m. Friday, and Delaware Valley at 12 p.m. and Division I Binghamton University at 2 p.m. Saturday.
