BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team remained perfect in the early season with wins over Gordon and Skidmore at the Brockport Invitational on Friday night. Ithaca defeated Gordon, 3-0, and topped Skidmore, 3-1, to improve to 3-0 on the year.
Match One: Ithaca 3, Gordon 0 – (25-16, 27-25, 25-18)The Bombers hit .306 in the opening match of the tournament and scored on nine service aces en route to the sweep of Gordon.
Freshman
Katie Evans led the way offensive for Ithaca, putting down 14 kills on a .667 hitting percentage with four block assists. Sophomore
Kayla Gromen notched a double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs, to go along with four kills (.333), three service aces and two block assists.
Sophomore
Joelle Goldstein tallied nine kills, seven digs and two aces, while freshman
Amanda Cerruti swung at a .364 clip with six kills to go along with six block assists.
Senior
Dylan Gawinski-Stern paced the Bombers defensively with 14 digs and added five assists. Freshman
Hailey Adler chipped in six kills and four digs, while classmate
Kyle Dandrea added five digs and two kills.
Sophomore
Marlee Wierda rounded out Ithaca's top performers against Gordon with three aces.
Ithaca notched 59 points on 43 kills, 13 total blocks and nine aces. The Fighting Scots tallied 28 kills, but hit .100 in the match.
Match Two: Ithaca 3, Skidmore 1 (21-25, 25-13, 25-14, 25-16)After stumbling in the first set, 25-21, Ithaca bounced back and ran away with the four-set victory with wins of 25-13, 25-14, 25-16. The Bombers were a force at the net defensively, tallying 15 total blocks and holding Skidmore to a .030 hitting percentage. On the other side, the Thoroughbreds were unable to record a single block in the match.
Three Bombers amassed double-digit points in the win. Goldstein and Adler led the way with 13 points each, while Cerruti accumulated 12.5.
Goldstein tallied 12 kills on a .300 hitting percentage with four digs and two block assists. Adler notched 13 digs, nine kills (.318) and two aces, while Cerruti put down eight kills with five block assists and two solo blocks.
Gromen dished out 39 more assists and added six digs with three kills, Gawinski-Stern recorded 20 digs with an ace. Evans hit .353 against Skidmore (8K, 2E, 17A), and Weirda tallied nine digs. Dandrea and junior
Breanne Tuohy added five and four kills each.
Ithaca is back in action tomorrow at 1 and 3 p.m. against Penn State Behrend and Brockport.Â
