HOUGHTON, N.Y.  – The Ithaca College women's tennis team remained on a roll Wednesday night, sweeping Houghton College 9-0 to extend its season-opening win streak to six.

For the fifth time in six matches, Ithaca (6-0, 6-0 Empire 8) swept an opponent. The Bombers, the 10-time defending champions of the Empire 8, have won 53 of a possible 54 matches to start the season.

Five student-athletes earned both singles and doubles wins against the Highlanders (6-4, 3-3 E8) as juniors Jodi Grosberg and Haley Kusak claimed two wins on the day, as did freshmen Caroline Dunn, Shayna Ginster and Kathryn Shaffer.

Kusak prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at first singles, Dun triumphed 6-1, 6-0 at second singles, Ginster earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at third singles, Grosberg won 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles, and Shaffer posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles.

Freshman Taylor Ginestro completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles.

In doubles action, Kusak and Dunn won 8-1, while Ginster and Shaffer swept second doubles 8-0. Grosberg and junior Sydney Greenspan's 9-8 victory at third doubles gave the Bombers the sweep.

Ithaca travels to Empire 8 rival Alfred University for a noon clash Saturday before hosting Hartwick (12 p.m.) and Cortland (4 p.m.) on the Wheeler Tennis Courts. The Bombers are 3-0 at home to start the 2015-16 season.
