Box Score 2 UTICA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team took down two Empire 8 Conference rivals on Saturday at Utica. In the opener, Ithaca swept Utica and then defeated Houghton in four sets to cap off the afternoon. With the pair of wins, the Bombers are now 15-1 on the season and have won 11 consecutive matches.
MATCH ONE: Ithaca 3, Utica 0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-21)Sophomore
Joelle Goldstein led Ithaca offensively with 12 kills to go along with six digs and three assists. Freshman
Katie Evans nearly reached double digit kills with nine and hit .500 in the match.
Junior
Breanne Tuohy registered seven kills with four digs, while freshman
Kyle Dandrea put down six kills.
Sophomore
Kayla Gromen dished out a match-best 34 assists, and completed the double-double with 11 digs. Gromen also recorded three aces and two kills.
Freshman
Hailey Adler added five kills and nine digs, while senior
Dylan Gawinski-Stern tallied 16 digs and two aces.
Ithaca hit .195 in the match, but swung at a .424 clip in the first set. Utica hit just .099 in the match.
MATCH TWO: Ithaca 3, Houghton 1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-18)Three Bombers reached double digit kills against Houghton. Goldstein paced Ithaca with a career-high 20 kills on a .366 hitting percentage and contributed 14 digs with two block assists.
Gromen handed out a career-high 58 assists with 12 digs, while Evans recorded 14 kills on a .440 hitting percentage with six digs. Adler was the third Bombers to reach 10-plus kills with 12 in the match on a .310 clip and added seven digs.
Sophomore
Caroline Gerulskis just missed double digit kills with eight, and Gawinski-Stern chipped in 15 more digs. Sophomore
Marlee Wierda rounded out the afternoon for Ithaca with nine digs.
Tuohy contributed four more kills against the Highlanders.
Ithaca heads to Fredonia on Oct. 2 and 3 for three matches. The Bombers open with Fredonia at 7 p.m on the 2nd and then battle Hilbert at 10 a.m. and Hilbert at 12:30 p.m. on the 3rd.
