No. 9 Bombers Sweep RV William Smith, Extend Winning Streak to Nine

GENEVA, N.Y. – The No. 9-ranked Ithaca College volleyball team continued its strong stretch Wednesday evening, sweeping the receiving-votes William Smith Herons in a Liberty League matchup. The Bombers secured the three-set victory on the road to improve to 5-0 in Liberty League play and extend their winning streak to nine matches.

Ithaca opened the match with a 25-20 victory in the first set to take an early 1-0 lead.

The second set proved to be a battle, as both teams traded points in a tightly contested frame. Ithaca ultimately came away with a 28-26 win to take a 2-0 advantage and move within one set of completing the sweep.

The Bombers took control in the third set, delivering their most dominant performance of the match. Ithaca limited the Herons' opportunities and secured a 25-12 victory to complete the sweep.

Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu led the Bombers offensively with 11 kills, while Addison Leadbetter followed with 10 kills. Leadbetter also anchored the defense at the net, recording a team-high seven blocks.

Wesley Slavin orchestrated the offense with 19 assists and added four service aces, while Jamie Low led Ithaca defensively with 10 digs.

The victory keeps the No. 9 Bombers undefeated in Liberty League play at 5-0 and extends their winning streak to nine consecutive matches.

Ithaca will return to Ben Light Gymnasium this Saturday, October 17, to take on Vassar College at 1 p.m. before closing out the day with Senior Night against the University of Rochester at 5 p.m.
