Women's Soccer Goes the Distance with Stevens; Settles for Tie

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team overcame a one-goal deficit late in the second half before settling for a 1-1 tie as the Bombers hosted the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks in an Empire 8 matchup at Carp Wood Field.

With the tie, Ithaca moves to 4-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the E8 standings while the Ducks sit at 5-2-1, 1-0-1.

After a scoreless first half of play, Stevens would strike first, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute on a shot that came from nearly 30 yards out.

As the half wore on, neither team was able to create much separation until the 76th minute when a Stevens' foul inside the box allowed the Bombers to knot the score at 1-1 after Kelsey King delivered on a penalty kick opportunity for her fifth goal of the season and third in the last two games.

Time would expire before a winner could be decided so both teams readied for overtime.  In the first extra session, the Bombers proved to be the aggressor, firing four shots but none were able to find their mark forcing a second overtime period to be played.

In the game's final 10 minutes, King nearly kicked in the game-winner but the Stevens' keeper was able to knock the ball away to preserve the tie.

The Ducks peppered Ithaca goalie Beth Coppolecchia with eight shots in the overtime periods, but the senior stood tall turning away every advance.  Coppolecchia made a season-high 11 saves and played all 110 minutes to move to 4-3-1 on the season.

Ithaca returns to the fold at 5 p.m. on Wednesday against the Hartwick College Hawks in Oneonta.
