MAHWAH, N.J. – The Ithaca College volleyball team completed its perfect weekend at the Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational with 3-0 victories over Ramapo and SUNY Potsdam on Saturday in Mahwah, N.J. Ithaca is now 12-1 this season and has won eight straight matches.
MATCH ONE: Ithaca 3, Ramapo 0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-21)The Bombers led every team category in the match and outhit host Ramapo, .235 to .186. In the first set, Ithaca trailed, 13-10, before scoring five straight to take a 15-13 lead. Ramapo regained lead at 19-18 and then points were traded until Roadrunners established 23-22 advantage. Kayla Gromen.
Ithaca ran away with the second set and led by as much as 19-7. Ramapo closed things to 21-14 before Ithaca finished off the set for a 2-0 lead in the match.
Ithaca fell behind once again, 9-8, in third, but fought back to take a 13-9 lead. Ramapo would go on a road and regained the advantage at 15-14. After the set was tied at 17-17, Ramapo scored the next two points, but Bombers ran off six consecutive points to go ahead, 23-19. Freshman
Kyle Dandrea had three kills in final four points for Ithaca to secure the sweep.
Goldstein and Dandrea each finished the match with five kills. Dandrea also tallied nine digs and two assists, while Goldstein had two digs and an ace.
Gromen posted match-highs with 29 assists and six aces, to go along with seven digs and six kills. Freshman
Katie Evans hit .316 in the match with eight kills on 16 attempts (two errors), while fellow freshman
Amanda Cerruti put down five kills on nine swings for a .444 hitting percentage.
Senior
Dylan Gawinski-Stern contributed 11 digs and four assists. Freshman Hailey Adley chipped in nine digs and three kills, and sophomore
Caroline Gerulskis added four kills. Sophomore
Marlee Wierda added four digs, an ace and kill.
MATCH TWO: Ithaca 3, Potsdam 0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-18)Just as the first match, Ithaca prevailed in all team categories and held a hitting percentage difference over the Bears of .138 (.288 to .150). The Bombers hit .324 in the first set and .367 in the second.
Ithaca jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set before Potsdam battled back to gain a 15-13 edge. From there, the teams were deadlocked six different times, the last at 22-22, before a Potsdam error and back-to-back kills by Gerulskis ended the set.
The Bombers never trailed in the second set and put the game away early by jumping out to a 10-3 difference. In the third set, Potsdam started on a 3-0 run, but Ithaca came back to tie the set at 7-7. The Bombers would then go on a 13-3 run to double up the Bears at 20-10. Adler ended the match with consecutive kills.
Cerruti and Evans notched team-highs with nine kills. Cerruti hit .368 and Evans swung at a .571 clip. Evans also had four total blocks, while Cerruti added two.
Goldstein accumulated seven more kills and five digs in the win. Gromen handed out 32 assists with eight digs and two kills, while Gerulskis accounted for six kills, three aces and four digs.
Adler and Dandrea each had four kills, while Gawinski-Stern notched 18 digs with three assists. Adler also tallied four digs and three aces, and Dandrea chipped in five more with two assists.
Wierda registered six digs with an ace, while junior
Breanne Tuohy contributed two kills on three tries with a pair of digs and block assists. Sophomore
Izabella Mocarski picked up two digs.
Ithaca will return home for a match against Keuka College on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m.
