Box Score CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team won its season opener for the fifth consecutive season with a 3-0 victory over Cazenovia on Tuesday evening. Ithaca completed the sweep by set scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-13.
The Bombers hit well in their opener, hitting .350 with 37 kills and 9 errors in 80 total attacks. Ithaca was particularly impressive in the third set, hitting .560 with 16 kills and only 2 errors in 25 attacks.
Sophomore
Joelle Goldstein, who was a first-team all-Empire 8 performer in 2014, tallied 11 kills with three digs, while fellow sophomore captain
Kayla Gromen handed out 23 assists to go with 4 digs, 3 kills and 3 aces against the Wildcats (0-1).
Senior captain Dylan Gawinski-Stern recorded 7 assists with 5 digs and 2 kills, while freshman
Katie Evans added eight kills in her Ithaca debut. Freshman
Hailey Adler contributed 5 kills with 4 digs and 2 aces, while classmate
Kyle Dandrea added five kills and freshman Amanda Cerruit had three kills in the sweep.
Ithaca, which posted a 25-11 campaign record in 2014 en route to the ECAC Metro/Upstate Championship, pounded out 11 aces in the victory.
Ithaca travels to SUNY Brockport on Sept. 4-5 for the Brockport Invitational. The Bombers will play Gordon and Skidmore at 4 and 8 p.m. on the 4th and then wrap up the weekend against Penn State-Behrend and Brockport on the 5th at 1 and 3 p.m.
