ITHACA, N.Y. - The nationally-ranked Ithaca College women's soccer team made quick work of the visiting Keuka College Wolfpack on Tuesday afternoon as the Bombers scored four first half goals en route to a 6-1 win in what was their season and home-opener at Carp Wood Field.
Ithaca, which has now posted a win in seven consecutive season openers, moves to 1-0-0 on the young season while Keuka falls to 0-1-0.
The Bombers wasted no time gaining an advantage as
Kelsey King kicked in the crossing pass from
Sarah Woychick just six minutes into the contest to make it 1-0 in favor of the home team.
Ithaca would continue to pour it on with two more goals in a span of ninety seconds when
Megan Nash and
Aimee Chimera found the back of the net on passes from
Holly Niemiec and
Megan Amaral, respectively, to bring the score to 3-0.
The offense continued for the Bombers in the 42nd minute when Chimera tallied her second goal of the afternoon after heading home a corner kick off the toes of
Jess Demczar to give the Bombers a 4-0 lead heading into intermission.
Head coach
Mindy Quigg's squad continued to distance itself from Keuka as the second half got underway, scoring just 50 seconds into the stanza when
Holly Niemiec beat Keuka's goalie on a pass from Woychick to give the Bombers a five-goal advantage, 5-0.
The Wolfpack would get on the board in the 50th minute of play, but it was too little, too late as Ithaca added another goal in the 67th minute as freshman
Savannah Brija connected on her first-career tally to give Ithaca the 6-1 victory.
The Bombers' defense lived up to its reputation, surrendering only one goal and limiting Keuka to only two shots all game. Offensively, the Bombers took 38 shots overall and had 12 corner kick opportunities.
Beth Coppolecchia earned the win in net for Ithaca to move to 1-0-0 on the season.Â
The Bombers return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday as they take on Rowan in the Rowan College Classic in Glassboro, N.J.
