Ithaca Softball Set For Empire 8 Tournament

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team will head to Alfred on Friday, May 1 for the opening game of the Empire 8 Tournament. The Bombers finished the 2015 regular season with an overall record of 20-12, including a mark of 11-3 in Empire 8 play. Ithaca's E8 record earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. The Bombers will play third-seeded Stevens at 10 a.m. on Friday, while top seeded Alfred will play fourth-seeded St. John Fisher following Ithaca's contest.

Meet The Bombers
The Bombers finished the season ranked first in the Empire 8 in both pitching and fielding. Ithaca's pitching staff holds an ERA of 2.02, while the team's fielding percentage paces the conference at .969.

Junior Kelly Robichaud leads Ithaca with 41 hits, six home runs and 70 total bases. Classmate Casey Gavin paces the team with 12 doubles and 30 RBI. Pitchers Laura Quicker and Allison Macari have seen action in 19 and 18 games, respectively, this season. Quicker is 11-7 with a 1.37 ERA and 70 strikeouts. Macari is 9-5 with a 2.89 ERA and 75 strikeouts. The Bombers rank fifth in the conference with a .297 batting average, while the team's 266 total hits rank third in the Empire 8. 

The Last Time Against Stevens
The Bombers opened Empire 8 play with a sweep of the Stevens Institute of Technology in their only meeting earlier this season on April 4 in Hoboken. The Bombers defeated the Ducks by a score of 6-3 in game one, before winning the second contest, 8-3.

Quicker earned the complete game victory in game one. She recorded six strikeouts while allowing just three earned runs on eight hits. Senior Francesca Busa went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Classmate Monica Capolongo also went 2-for-4 at the plate, picking up a double and pacing the Bombers with two RBI. Gavin rounded out the multi-hit performers, going 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

Macari recorded the win in game two, earning the complete game victory after allowing just two earned runs on four Stevens' hits. She also secured six strikeouts. Freshman Allie Colleran led the Bombers with three hits in four at-bats. She hit her first career home run, also picking up a double and a RBI. Junior Erin McQuillan and Robichaud also hit home runs in the victory. McQuillan's marked the first of her collegiate career.

Tournament History
This season marks just the third time in 14 seasons that the Bombers have not hosted the conference postseason tournament. The Bombers have won the Empire 8 Tournament nine times, most recently winning the conference championship at Kostrinsky Field in 2014. Top-seeded Alfred and third-seeded Stevens have never earned an E8 title. St. John Fisher has won four, with the Cardinals most recent coming in 2013.

In tournament play, the Bombers hold an overall record of 34-10. Against the current field, Ithaca is 22-8, including marks of 7-1 against Alfred, 14-7 against St. John Fisher and 1-0 against Stevens.  

Tickets
Ticket prices are set at $4 general admission (children under 12 are free) and $2 with a valid College Student ID. All tickets will be available at the gates the day of the game. Gates open one hour prior to the opening pitch.,

Parking
Limited parking will be available behind McLane Center. Once parking is unavailable there, then parking must be found elsewhere. There will be no vehicles allowed in the field adjacent to Harrington Field. The drive going into the back of Yunevich Stadium will also be blocked off. There will be no parking above Harrington Field next to the press box.
