Football Heads to Buffalo for Final Road Game of 2015

2015 BUFFALO STATE GAME NOTES
ITHACA, N.Y. —
The Ithaca College football team hits the road for the last time in 2015, traveling to Empire 8 rival Buffalo State for a league game at 12 p.m. Saturday on the turf field at the University at Buffalo's football stadium.
Ithaca (4-4, 2-4 Empire 8) will look to snap a three-game losing streak in its final road game of the season. The Bombers are coming off a 34-0 home shutout against St. John Fisher College Oct. 31 on Parents' and Senior Day.

It was Ithaca's first shutout since a 21-0 loss at Brockport Oct. 19, 2002.

Senior Schnayder Termidor and sophomore Dan Loizos each finished with 12 tackles, with Termidor recording two of the Bombers' five sacks. It was Termidor's first two-sack game this year, and the third of his career.

Senior Malik Morris added 10 tackles, his fourth game with 10 or more tackles this year, and also broke up two passes in the loss.

Ithaca, the two-time defending Empire 8 conference champions, was officially eliminated from the race for the conference championship.

Junior Skyler Kauf and sophomore Kenny Bradley each added eight tackles, while sophomore Jimmy Sullivan made a career-high seven tackles for the Bombers.

Senior Logan Murphy had six tackles and added a sack, as did senior Zach Pidgeon and junior Tyler Beauchesne against the Cardinals (5-3, 4-2).

Up next for Ithaca is a Buffalo State squad that ranks seventh in the nation in rushing defense, allowing 68.3 yards per game on the ground. Both squads are nationally-ranked in run defense, with Ithaca (99.3 yards per game rushing allowed) ranked 23rd in the nation.

Buffalo State's defense has allowed just 18.9 points-per-game this season, good for tops in the Empire 8. The Bengals also lead the league with 14 interceptions and 31 sacks in eight games.

The Matchup: The Bombers and Bengals (5-3, 3-3) are both coming off losses, as Buffalo State had its four-game win streak come to an end with a 41-30 loss to Hartwick after allowing the Hawks to pass for 374 yards, giving the Hawks their first Empire 8 win of the season. Saturday's clash is being broadcast on WICB (http://www.iheart.com/live/92-WICB-Ithaca-College-5244/). Live stats can be found here, and fans can watch the Buffalo State streaming video here.

The Last Meeting: Buffalo State upset 13th-ranked Ithaca 38-27 to hand the Bombers their first loss of the season on Oct. 11, 2014. Buffalo State took an early 7-0 lead on a 76-yard interception return for a touchdown on the first drive of the game, but Ithaca scored 17 unanswered points on a six-yard rushing touchdown from Tristan Brown, and a four-yard TD pass from Tom Dempsey to Ben Cary.  The Bengals answered with 31 unanswered points, forcing six turnovers in knocking off the Bombers. Brown rushed for 101 yards on 23 carries for his third 100-yard game of the year. Dempsey threw for a career-high 356 passing yards with two touchdowns, posting the sixth-highest single game passing total in school history. Kenny Bradley made 10 tackles, his second game with 10 or more tackles, and Anthony Domenick added a 29-yard interception return, his first career interception. Ithaca boasted a pair of 100-yard receivers in Vito Boffoli (eight catches for 130 yards), and Andrew Tabbert (five catches for 100 yards). It was the sixth time in school history that Ithaca had a 300-yard passer, a 100-yard rusher, and a 100-yard receiver.

The Series: The Bombers own a 15-9 series record against the Bengals all-time. The two teams met every season from 1998 until 2006 and have met every season since Buffalo State joined the Empire 8 as a football affiliate in 2012. Ithaca won seven of the first nine games in the series before Buffalo State won five consecutive games from 1995 to 1999. At the turn of the century, Ithaca won seven straight contests against the Bengals. The Bombers have played well in Buffalo, sporting a 6-4 record and prevailing in the last four matchups at Buffalo State. Ithaca has outscored Buffalo State 28.8 to 18.4 all-time. The teams met twice in the NCAA playoffs, with Buffalo State winning 28-26 in 1992, and Ithaca winning 10-7 in double overtime in 1994.

Termidor the Terminator: Senior Schnayder Termidor had a career-high 12 tackles and had his first multi-sack game of the season against Fisher last week. It was the outside linebacker's third multi-sack game of his career. Termidor is fifth on the team in total tackles on the season with 47.

Schemm Leads the Country in Kickoff Returns: Sophomore Jordan Schemm has returned 11 kicks for 414 yards, averaging 37.6 yards per kickoff return, a figure that leads all of NCAA Division III. Schemm returned a kickoff 91 yards for his first collegiate touchdown in a 47-19 win over Hartwick (Oct. 10). He also recorded three games of 100-plus kickoff return yards, and also had an 83-yard kickoff return during 38-18 win over Alfred Sept. 26.

Bengals Best Rushing Attack in E8: Buffalo State enters today's game as the leading rushing team in the conference, averaging over 200-yards per game. The Bengals' 22 rushing touchdowns and 5.4 yards per rush are also first in the Empire 8. Tre Jones ranks third with 705 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, while Dale Stewart ranks fifth with 532 rushing yards rushing while averaging nearly eight yards per carry.
