ONEONTA, N.Y. – For the second consecutive game, the Ithaca College women's soccer team was able to score a late goal to earn a 1-0 win as the Bombers handed Hartwick College its first loss in conference play in an Empire 8 matchup on Tuesday at Elmore Field.
With the win, Ithaca improves to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference standings while the Hawks fall to 2-1-0 against conference opponents and 8-2 overall.
Kelsey King delivered what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 59th minute after finding the corner of the net from over 20 yards out. The senior now has amassed six goals on the season and ranks third overall among all Empire 8 players with 14 points.
Hartwick tried to mount a comeback, taking two shots in the game's final four minutes, but the Bombers' defense rose to the occasion, turning away each offering.
Beth Coppolecchia earned her sixth win of the season in goal for Ithaca and was credited with making five saves.
The Bombers next bout is at 12 p.m. on Sunday against R.I.T. in Rochester.
