Rochester, N.Y. – Holly Niemiec scored twice as the Ithaca College women's soccer team handed nationally-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology its second loss of the season as the Bombers doubled up the Tigers, 2-1, on Sunday at Tiger Stadium. With the win, Ithaca improves to 7-3-1 overall while R.I.T., which is ranked 15th in the latest national poll, falls to 9-2-2.
Niemiec, who entered the game having scored three goals in her previous 10 games, got the Bombers on the board in the 8th minute when she booted a long shot from the top of the box to give Ithaca a 1-0 lead.
After nearly 45 minutes over scoreless play, the Tigers evened the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute, but Niemiec would tally the game-winning game in the 89th minute on another long shot to lift the Bombers to a 2-1 victory.
Beth Coppolecchia played well in goal, limiting one of the nation's top offenses to a single goal while making six saves. The senior keeper improved her season record to 7-3-1 in the process.
Ithaca will continue play on the road at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when it takes on Oneonta.
