ITHACA, N.Y. —The Ithaca College women's tennis team will head into the Empire 8 championships on a nine-match winning streak after the Bombers dispatched of Hartwick College and Cortland by 9-0 scores Sunday afternoon on the Wheeler Tennis Courts.

Ithaca, the 10-time defending Empire 8 champions, improved to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in Empire 8 play with the sweeps, Ithaca's seventh straight and eighth in nine matches.

The Bombers have won 80 of a possible 81 matches to start the season, and improved to 5-0 at home with the victories.

Against Hartwick, all six Ithaca student-athletes earned singles and doubles victories. Junior Jodi Grosberg (sixth) and freshman Shayna Ginster (fifth) earned 6-0, 6-0 singles wins, while senior Marni Blumenthal (fourth) and freshman McKineligh Lair (second) emerged with 6-1, 6-0 singles wins.

Junior Haley Kusak earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles, while freshman Caroline Dunn triumphed 6-1, 6-3 at third singles.

In doubles play, Kusak and Lair won 8-2 at the first flight, Dunn and Ginster won 8-2 at the second flight, and Blumenthal and Greenspan won 8-1 in the third flight.

Taking on Cortland, each participating Bomber student-athlete earned a pair of wins against the Red Dragons. Ginster won 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles, while Lair earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles.

Kusak prevailed 7-5, 6-1 at the first flight, Dunn posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at the third flight, Blumenthal won 6-1, 6-1 at the fourth flight, and Grosberg emerged with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at the sixth flight.

In doubles play, Kusak and Lair won 8-1 at first doubles, while Dunn and Ginster won 8-3 at second doubles, and Blumenthal and Greenspan won 8-1 at third doubles.

Ithaca is off this week before traveling to Nazareth College for the Empire 8 championships, Oct. 17-18.
