ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team ran its winning streak to six straight matches with a sweep of Wells College on Tuesday night in Ben Light Gymnasium. Tonight's match was also the home finale for Ithaca, who improved its record to 26-3 on the season. Set scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-23.
Sophomore
Kayla Gromen needed just 14 assists heading into tonight's match to eclipse 1,000 assists on the season, and met that mark on the Bombers' first kill of the second set. Gromen finished the match with 34 assists to go along with nine digs, three kills and a service ace.
Gromen is the first setter to reach 1,000-plus assists in a season since 2009.
Ithaca nearly set a new team-high for hitting percentage in a match this season with a .366 clip, but came up shy by .003 percent of tying the team's previous best, which took place three days ago against Hartwick. The Bombers put down 46 kills with just nine errors in 101 attempts.
Freshman
Hailey Adler led all players with 12 kills on a .407 hitting percentage with nine digs. Classmate
Amanda Cerruti swung at a .692 with nine kills on 13 tries and no errors. Both Adler and Cerruti started the match with four kills each in the first set.
Sophomore
Joelle Goldstein just missed a double-double with 12 digs and eight kills (.368), while freshmen
Katie Evans and
Kyle Dandrea each posted five kills. Evans hit .375 and tallied four of her kills in the first set, while Dandrea accounted for all her offense in the third set.
Junior
Breanne Tuohy added three kills in six attempts, while sophomore
Izabella Mocarski chipped in four digs. Fellow sophomore
Marlee Wierda tallied three digs, and classmate
Caroline Gerulskis chipped in three digs and a block assist.
Senior
Dylan Gawinski-Stern contributed a match-high-tying 13 digs with two assists and an ace.
The Bombers will head to SUNY Oneonta this weekend to wrap up the regular season. Ithaca plays with Plattsburgh at 5 p.m. on Oct. 30 and then takes on Oneonta and Ramapo at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on the 31st.
