ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team pushed its winning streak to five games on Saturday as the Bombers defeated Empire 8 foe St. John Fisher, 2-0, at Carp Wood Field. With the win, Ithaca, which has not lost a game in its last seven contests, moves to 9-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference standings. St. John Fisher falls to 5-7-1 overall and 2-4-0 against Empire 8 opponents.
Ithaca would take the lead for good in the 23rd minute when
Taylor Baranowsky headed in the first half's lone goal off a corner kick feed from
Holly Niemiec to give Ithaca a 1-0 lead.
The Bombers added an insurance goal in the 76th minute when
Jess Demczar found the top right corner of the goal on a free kick from nearly 25 yards out to give the home team a two-goal lead.
The Cardinals had an opportunity to score late in the second half, but the offering sailed wide as the Bombers earned their second consecutive shutout win in the process.
Dating back to the beginning of the Bombers' unbeaten streak, Ithaca has notched four victories by shutout and has allowed only two goals in that span.
Senior goalie
Beth Coppolecchia, the reigning Empire 8 and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week was credited with the win after making four stops in 90 minutes. The win marked her fifth shutout of the season.
Ithaca will begin a two-game road trip at 3 p.m. on Tuesday when it travels to Elmira to face the Soaring Eagles in a conference battle.
