Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team fell in five sets to visiting Wells College on Wednesday at Ben Light Gymnasium. The Bombers rallied to win the fourth set and force a deciding fifth set, that Wells won and captured the dual match. Match scores were 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-7. Ithaca is 20-8 on the season and Wells improved to 19-9.

Wells built a 10-point advantage in the first set at 19-9, but Ithaca made a comeback effort that fell just short. In the second set, Ithaca won three straight points at 16-16 to build a 19-16 lead and went on to the victory. Wells won the third set after jumping out to a 6-1 lead. In the fourth set, Ithaca trailed 9-7 early on but went on a 7-1 run to take a 19-13 lead. The Bombers held on for a 25-23 win to force the deciding set. Wells won six of the last seven points in the fifth set for the win.

Ithaca was led by 19 kills from
Joelle Goldstein, the only player to record double-digit kills in the match.
Kayla Gromen had 44 assists.
Myan Idziur had 18 digs, Gromen added 17 and Goldstein had 15 for Ithaca. Gromen led Ithaca with four block assists.
Maggie Mutschler had two service aces.

This was the second meeting of the season between the schools, and Ithaca won the earlier meeting. The game was the inaugural match for the Cayuga Cup, a trophy that will be awarded to the winning team in this regular-season matchup each year.

Ithaca hosts Empire 8 conference matches on Saturday at Ben Light Gymnasium as the top three teams in the conference will play against one another. The Bombers play against Nazareth at 11 a.m. and Stevens Institute of Technology at 4 p.m.
