Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team defeated Oneonta on Tuesday night, dropping the Red Dragons by a score of 3-0 at Carp Wood Field. The victory improves Ithaca's record to 12-2-0 on the season. Oneonta falls to 6-7-2 overall.
Â
Junior
Kelsey King, sophomore
Holly Niemiec and freshman
Caroline Matos all scored for the Bombers, while goalkeeper
Beth Coppolecchia stopped all three Red Dragon shots she faced for her ninth shutout of 2014. The contest was almost even in the shot department, as Ithaca recorded 14 total shots to Oneonta's 12. Both teams recorded five corner kicks.
Â
It didn't take long for Ithaca to get on the board, thanks to a goal from King at 4:51 of the first half. Niemiec started the play, streaking down the far side before firing a pass to King at the top of the box. King wrestled lone possession away from an Oneonta defender and fired a shot, beating the goalkeeper for her 11th tally of the season.
Â
King's 30th career goal would mark the only score of the first half, sending the game to the break with a 1-0 score in favor of the Bombers.
Â
Ithaca added an insurance marker in the 60th minute, putting the score at 2-0. Niemiec was able to convert on a pass through the box from classmate
Jess Demczar, placing the ball in the far right corner for her second goal of the season.
Â
Ithaca added its final score with just under three minutes to play. Sophomore
Megan Nash sent a pass to the far post, where Matos was waiting to bank in her first goal as a Bomber. Matos' goal pushed the score to 3-0, and secured the victory for Ithaca.
Â
The Bombers return to Carp Wood Field on Oct. 25 for a conference matchup with Hartwick to determine final placement for E8 Playoffs. Ithaca will also be honoring its seniors in pregame, as Saturday marks the final regular season home game for
Jessie Warren and
Kelly Pantason. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
