Men's Swimming & Diving Takes Top Spot At Kumpf Invite


TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team placed first out of seven teams at Rensselaer's Kumpf Invite Saturday afternoon. The Bombers scored 625.5 points at the meet, easily beating second place Rensselaer's score of 557.5. Cortland placed third with a score of 310, while Clarkson (300) and Vassar (197) rounded out the top five. Ithaca earned a first-place finish in 10-of-13 events.

The Bombers opened the day with a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Connor White, Lucas Zelehowsky, Taylor Van Cott and Zack Kundel earned the top spot with a time of 3:35.92, while teammates Nick Warner, James Bowe, Connor Schroyer and Logan Metzger placed third with a time of 3:41.34.

L. Zelehowsky continued his strong showing with a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, setting a meet record with a time of 1:55.80.  L. Zelehowsky earned his third top spot of the day in the 200-yard individual medley, taking first with a time of 1:59.38. Teammates Addison Hebert (2:02.61) and Van Cott weren't far behind, finishing second and third, respectively.

Kundel continued to help the Bombers with his second top finish of the meet, taking first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.59. Metzger took second, finishing in a time of 21.98.

Adam Zelehowsky earned a first place finish in his first meet of the season in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 1:44.89. John Carr earned a top finish with a time of 48.19 in the 100-yard freestyle, while Bowe capped off the top finishes in the individual events with a time of  2:13.63 in the 200-yard breaststroke. 

Matt Morrison dominated in the diving events, taking the top spot across the board. Morrison's score of 312.60 in the 1-meter set a season high, while his score of 301.05 on the 3-meter dive was over 30 points higher than the second place finisher.

Clement Towner had a solid performance in the 1000-yard freestyle, pacing the Bombers with a second-place finish in a time of 10:11.07. Ben Kennedy also contributed with a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 2:03.18.

The Bombers closed the meet with another relay victory, as the team of Chris Cadwell, Carr, Hebert and Kundel took first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:14.35.

Ithaca is right back in the water on Jan. 18, as the Bombers head to Rochester for a dual meet. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
