Late Surge Runs Short as Men's Lacrosse Team Suffers Setback at #11 Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team (11-5, 5-2 Empire 8) scored three fourth-quarter goals, but its run ran short as the Bombers fell to 11th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology (12-3, 6-1 Empire 8) 11-4 Saturday afternoon. The third-seeded Bombers will travel to face the second-seeded Ducks Wednesday evening in an Empire 8 semifinal contest.

Stevens shutout Ithaca, 6-0, scoring three in each of the first two periods. The Bombers netted the first of the second half, but the Ducks went on to secure a 9-1 lead with 7:36 lingering in the fourth quarter. Ithaca tallied three of the final five goals.

Senior Connor Lowe, junior Brandon Henne, sophomore Dan Sclafani and freshman Duncan Ayer accounted for Ithaca's four scores. Senior Adam Wacenske was credited with one assist.

Henne won seven faceoffs and rookie Shane Stickle added three. Henne had a Bomber-best five ground balls and sophomore Jimmy Ryan collected four. Defensively, five players forced two turnovers apiece.

Rookie Scott Sidnam made 14 saves in 55:12 in cage, while senior Andrew Landsman stopped two during the final 4:48 of action. 

The Ducks outshot Ithaca, 41-20, and held a 37-32 edge in ground balls, while the Bombers owned the faceoff advantage, 10-9.
