ITHACA, N.Y. – The 20th-ranked Ithaca College men's lacrosse team (9-4, 3-1 Empire 8) defeated host Utica (7-5, 2-3 Empire 8), 15-4, Wednesday afternoon at Gaetano Stadium.
The Bombers blanked Utica 5-0 in the first period. Both squads netted one in the second for a 6-1 Ithaca edge at the half. Ithaca powered through the second half outscoring the Pioneers, 9-3, to improve to 3-1 in league play.
Sophomores
Steve Danylyshyn and
James Manilla tallied hat tricks to lead the Bombers. Juniors
Joe Perkins and
Jake Long scored a pair each, while five others recorded one apiece.
Junior
Pat Slawta tied a career-high with four assists, while Long added two. Six others dished out one assist each.
Senior
Adam Wacenske and freshman
Scott Sidnam scooped up five ground balls each, a career-high performance for Sidnam who finished the game with 12 stops in goal for the win. Senior
Andrew Landsman did not make a save in the final 2:47 of play. Wacenske forced a trio of turnovers on defense.
Junior
Brandon Henne won four faceoffs for the Bombers and sophomore
Matt Greenblatt had three.
Ithaca led the shot count, 38-32, and ground balls, 32-25. The Pioneers won 14 of 22 faceoffs.
The Bombers return to action Saturday, April 20 hosting Hartwick at noon for senior day.
