ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team extended their winning streak to 16 games after defeating the Utica Pioneers Saturday afternoon at Freeman Field. The Bombers were originally scheduled to play a double header in Utica, but due to the wet conditions the games were moved to Freeman Field and only one nine inning game was played. Ithaca was the visiting team in the game although the games were played at their home field. The Bombers used 16 hits to score 11 runs and cruise to an 11-1 win over the Pioneers and improve their record to 20-4 on the season. The Bombers return to play tomorrow in Ithaca for a double header against the Utica Pioneers. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Bombers started the scoring early, notching three runs in the top half of the first inning. Junior
Tim Locastro tripled and later scored on a wild pitch to get the Bombers on the board. After
Tim Henry walked and
Colby Gee singled , Senior catcher
Corey Caswell hit an RBI single to leftfield to score them both.
Ithaca pulled away after scoring five runs on six hits in the fifth inning. Caswell started the inning with a single which was immediately followed by a single up the middle by
Max Addy. Matt Connoly then bunted to successfully advance the runners who later scored on a single by centerfielder
Luke Stark. With the score then 5-0
Christian Brown singled to score Stark, and Locastro was hit by a pitch for the fifteenth time this season. With two runners on base, Henry then doubled, scoring both Brown and Locastro, to make the score 8-0. The Bombers later scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh to finish their 11 run day.
Tim Henry had three hits for the Ithaca offense including his two RBI double.
Colby Gee,
Corey Caswell, and
Max Addy each had two hits on the day.
Luke Stark led the team with three runs batted in and Tim Loacstro scored two runs.
Pat Lemmo earned the win on the mound for the Bombers, going seven innings, giving up just one run and striking out seven. Freshman
Zach Pidgeon finished the last two inning in the mound allowing two hits and striking out four.
