WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team (1-0) defeated host Lycoming (1-4) 11-7 on Wednesday at the Shangraw Complex in their season opener.
Senior
Connor Lowe and junior
Jake Long each matched their career-high scoring performances with a hat trick apiece as the Bombers claimed their third straight season-opening victory over Lycoming.
Ithaca posted seven first-half goals to lead 7-2 at intermission. Trailing 9-3 after the third period, the Warriors pulled within four, 11-7, with a flurry of goals down the stretch. Time expired before Lycoming could sneak within striking distance.
One of five Bombers with one goal apiece, junior
Joe Perkins added a pair of assists for a career-best three points. Junior
Pat Slawta tallied one goal and one assist for the Bombers. Senior
Adam Wacenske forced a game-high three turnovers.
Faceoff specialist junior
Brandon Henne went 7-for-11 on the day and added one score. Sophomore
Jimmy Ryan had a contest-high five ground balls, while Henne and rookie
Eli Gobrecht scooped up four each.
Freshman
Scott Sidnam claimed his first collegiate victory in goal having made eight stops.
Ithaca more than doubled the Warriors' shot count with a 51-24 margin. Ithaca also owned the ground balls margin, 36-30.
The Bombers return to action on Sunday, March 10 when they face Drew at a neutral site in Severn, Md. at 1 p.m.
