No. 7 Wilkes Manages 19-12 Wrestling Win Over No. 13 Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. - The seventh-ranked Wilkes Colonels (18-3) posted a 19-12 dual-match victory over 13th-ranked Ithaca College (7-5) in a matchup of nationally-ranked Division III wrestling teams at Glazer Arena. The facility was hosting its first wrestling dual match.

The Bombers started strong with a 6-1 decision win by Ricky Gomez at 125 pounds over Geuseppe Rea. Gomez is ranked third nationally in that weight class.

In a matchup of nationally-ranked wrestlers at 133 pounds, Ithaca's Alex Gomez, who is third-ranked, posted a 9-3 decision over Myzar Mendoza, ranked fifth for Wilkes. Gomez used a late first-period takedown to seize control and extended his winning margin with near-fall points in the final minute of the bout.

The Bombers got a 4-0 decision win at 141 by Dominick Giacolone before Wilkes got on the board with a 5-0 decision win by Mark Hartenstine at 149.

Another matchup between nationally-ranked wrestlers went in Wilkes' favor at 157. Kris Krawchuk, ranked fourth in that weight class, scored a 9-8 decision over Ithaca's Derek Brenon, who is ranked sixth in the nation. The bout was tied 8-8 headed to the third period, where Krawchuk started with the advantage and rode Brenon out to get a riding-time point and the decision victory.

A bonus-point victory by major decision at 165 gave Wilkes a 10-9 advantage in the team scoring as Nathan White outscored Jake Buczewski 8-0.

Jules Doliscar, ranked second in the country at 174, posted a 12-5 decision victory in his bout to give Ithaca the lead in team scoring. It was the 60th win in the two-year career of Doliscar, who is 27-1 on the season.

Wilkes won the last three bouts to claim the dual victory. Eric Bach was a 7-4 winner over Dan Glinko at 184. The Colonels built a four-point lead in the team scores with an overtime decision victory at 197 by Matt Tranue, who scored a takedown 21 seconds into the overtime period. The Colonels clinched the match with a decision win at heavyweight by William Fletcher behind a first-period takedown and second-period escape.

Ithaca seniors Derek Brenon, Evan Connors, Jules Doliscar and Ricky Gomez were honored prior to the start of the match, their last home dual meet for the Bombers, along with student manager Kim Armbruster.
