KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team (6-6) suffered a five-set loss to host Keuka (11-3), 3-2 (15-25, 18-25, 27-25, 25-22, 15-7), Thursday evening.
The Bombers' offense was controlled by senior
Marissa Weil with 22 kills. Junior
Justine Duryea added 10 and freshman
Christine Flannery nine. Freshman
Carly Garone set for 42 assists in the Bombers' third five-set match of the season.
Defensively, sophomore
Abbie Hutchinson posted four blocks and
Duryea three. Ithaca had five with double-digit digs.
Duryea led the way with 31 and freshman
Dylan Gawinski Stern followed with 23.
The Bombers dominated action in the first two sets. Ithaca managed a 17-8 lead in the first as junior
Syline Kim held serve en route to a 10-1 Bomber run and a 25-15 first-set victory. The Blue & Gold powered to a 10-3 lead to open the second and never looked back. The Storm crept within 22-18 before Ithaca put together three straight to take a 2-0 series lead.
Keuka rallied in the third to claim an extra-point 27-25 set and carried its momentum into the fourth for a 25-22 win knotting action at 2-2. The Storm pieced together a 5-1 to kick off the final frame and ran away with the match in 15-7 fashion.
The Bombers next travel to Wells for a 6 p.m. match on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
