Ithaca players celebrate Blair Carney's overtime goal against Houghton.
Box Score
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca men's soccer team (3-1-3, 1-0-1 Empire 8) scored a goal in the first overtime period and earned a 1-0 victory over Houghton (3-4-1, 0-2-0 Empire 8) in a conference game Saturday afternoon at Carp Wood Field.

The game's only goal came with seven seconds showing on the scoreboard clock in the first overtime period on a low cross from sophomore Greg Hepper across the face of goal, where freshman forward Blair Carney slid along the field and directed the ball in at the right post. It was the first-career goal for Carney, and the second assist of the year for Hepper.

The Bombers held the majority of possession in the game and earned 12 corner kicks. Ithaca took 19 shots in the game.

Two excellent scoring chances in the second half for the Bombers were turned away by the Houghton goalkeeper. In the 73rd minute, Hepper headed a ball toward the upper-left corner of the net that forced a diving save. In the 81st minute, sophomore forward Tim Goldman was played through the middle of the Highlanders' defense in alone on goal, and the goalkeeper came off his line to make a save at the top of the penalty area.

Ithaca goalkeeper Kenny Chapman earned his first collegiate decision, he made three saves over the second half and overtime. Jordan Gentile played the first half and didn't face a shot on target.

Ithaca is now unbeaten in six games, and returns to action Tuesday at home for a 4 p.m. game against Scranton.
