Clinton, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team (4-1) defeated host Hamilton (2-3), 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-23), Tuesday night at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.
Senior
Marissa Weil led the Bombers with 14 kills and freshman
Christine Flannery chipped in seven and a match-high 15 digs. Freshman
Carly Garone put up 27 assists and junior
Justine Duryea led all action with a trio of aces.
Defensively, freshman
Emily Kovach added nine digs for the Bombers, while sophomore
Abbie Hutchinson posted a career-best three block assists.
With a 7-6 edge in the first, Ithaca pieced together a 9-1 streak to run away with the set, 25-12.
The Continentals took an early 8-4 lead in the second before the Bombers responded to knot the game at 9-9. Action was tied on six additional occasions, including an 18-18 deadlock, but Ithaca posted seven of the set's final eight points to take a two-set lead with a 25-19 final.
After a back-and-forth start to the third, Ithaca reversed a late 23-21 deficit to sweep Hamilton in three with a 25-23 final frame victory.
The Bombers next travel to New Paltz for the Hawks Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15.
