Clermont, Fla. – The Ithaca softball team, ranked 20th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Poll, split a pair of games Wednesday at the National Training Center at Clermont, Fla. Ithaca (3-2) returns to action Thursday with games against Franklin & Marshall and Monmouth (Ill.).
Ithaca 5, Manhattanville 2
The Bombers won the second game of the day on the strength of a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning. The bottom of the fifth included RBI hits from sophomore
Julianne Vincent and freshman
Francesca Busa, and a two-run hit from junior
Molly O'Donnell. Ithaca took the lead with a run in the fourth on a double by O'Donnell and an RBI single from sophomore
Rachel Dell'Orto. Sophomore
Jillian Olmstead was the starting pitcher and picked up the win, her second victory of the season, and freshman
Eve Brown pitched the final three innings to earn the save, allowing just two runs in the top of the seventh.
Plattsburgh 3, Ithaca 2
A two-run rally by the Bombers came up just short in a 3-2 loss to Plattsburgh. The Cardinals scored twice in the bottom of the first and added another run in the second inning. Ithaca came back with a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by freshman
Francesca Busa that followed a hit by sophomore
Julianne Vincent. Ithaca added another run in the sixth on a solo home run from
Molly O'Donnell.
