#5 Bombers Roll To 37-6 Wrestling Win Over Stevens

ITHACA, N.Y. – The fifth-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team (11-2) posted victories in eight of 10 bouts in cruising to a 37-6 win over #29 Stevens Institute of Technology (10-6) in dual-meet action Friday night.

The Bombers grabbed a 12-0 lead with back-to-back forfeits to begin the match and then reeled off six victories in a row through the middle of the lineup, building the advantage to 31-3.

Graduate student Nick Sanko (Hamburg Area/Lenhartsville, Pa) highlighted the run with a 9-3 decision over his adversary from Stevens, who came ranked ninth. Sanko led the bout from start to finish after getting a takedown in the first period. He added three more takedowns on his way to improving to 11-2 this season (9-1 in duals) and 47-21 for his career.

Seniors Derek Brenon (Immaculate Heart Central/Watertown) and Matt Mahon (Brighton/Rochester) both recorded pinfall victories in identical times of 59 seconds. Brenon won the 157-pound bout with his fifth fall of the season and improved to 53-13 for his career, including 10-4 this season. Mahon notched his 10th heavyweight fall of the season and now stands at 20-7 on the year and 85-33 as a Bomber.

Graduate student Jeremy Stierly (Owen J. Roberts/Pottstown, Pa.) scored the lone major decision win in the match by an 18-5 score at 149 pounds. Stierly led 9-2 after the first period on his way to improving to 3-0 on the season, with two of the victories coming by major decision. He upped his career mark to 82-17.

Junior Jules Doliscar (Holy Trinity/Dix Hills), the nation's top-ranked 174-pounder, remained unbeaten in dual meets this season with a 3-1 decision. Doliscar scored a first-period takedown and held on late to improve to 27-3 on the season (12-0 in duals).

Freshman Grant Dickey (Cedar Cliff/New Cumberland, Pa.) followed with a 5-2 decision victory at 184 pounds. Dickey took control with two first-period takedowns and now stands at 12-11 overall and 3-2 in dual meets.

Ithaca's victory is the second over Stevens in as many meetings.

The Bombers are back in action Saturday in a dual meet against #23 Delaware Valley, beginning at noon.
