ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's and women's swimming & diving teams hosted the Ithaca February Invitational for select competitors ahead of this week's Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association and Empire 8 championship meets. Over 40 events were contested, some unopposed, and featured participants from Ithaca, Geneseo and Oneonta.
Notable performances for the Bomber women included two event wins for junior
Kerri Hamersky, sho was first in the 500 free (5:21.23) and 200 free (2:02.67). Freshman
Mariel Kunnapas won the 100 back (1:04.15) and 200 back (2:20.21). Graduate student
Katie Kaiser placed first in 1-meter diving with a score of 381.90 for 11 dives.
Ithaca's men's team was led by freshman
Brendan Marks with a win in the 50 free in 22.19 seconds. Junior
Jon Zajdel won the 1,650 free in 17:53.33, and freshman
Matt Morrison won the diving event with a score of 459.75.
The
UNYSCSA / Empire 8 championship meet begins Wednesday and continues through Saturday, with preliminary heats scheduled to begin each day at 10 a.m. and event finals scheduled for a 6 p.m. start on each day of competition.
