ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team extended its lead at the 14th Annual Bomber Invitational held on Friday inside the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium after a stellar second day, amassing 1,903 points to stay well ahead of the University of Rochester (981) and Alfred University (752).
The Bombers opened the night with a decisive win in the 200-yard medley relay, as
Alec Kutsner,
Will Stanczewski,
Matthew Mitros, and
Spencer Alderson combined for a time of 1:30.36. Ithaca closed the session with another relay victory, taking the 800-yard freestyle relay in 6:55.45 thanks to strong legs from Stanczewski,
Kyle Kruppa,
Bennett Molitor-Kirsch, and
Ryan Cooke.
Individual highlights included:
- It was a photo finish with Bennett Molitor-Kirsch and Ryan Cooke tying for first in the 200-yard freestyle, each touching in 1:41.44. Kyle Kruppa and Harper Freeman finished third and fourth, respectively, with times of 1:43.47 and 1:44.16 giving Ithaca a sweep of the top four spots.
- Will Stanczewski claimed the 100-yard breaststroke title with a time of 57.35, while Nicholas Sosa (57.35) and Mateo Graff (58.22) finished second and fourth.
- Graduate student Matthew Mitros placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (50.05), with teammates Mike Ekert and James Moore rounding out the top five.
- In diving, Kian Long dominated the 1-meter event, scoring 482.25 points to secure first place. He also won on the 3-meter on Friday as he secured back-to-back impressive performances on both boards.
The Bombers return to the Athletics & Events Center pool tomorrow for the final day of competition on Saturday, presented by The Hotel Ithaca. The invitational will resume at 9 a.m. with prelims in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and the 1,650 with the finals taking place in the evening at 6 p.m. Diving will get underway at 12:30 p.m. with the women competing on the 3-meter boards with the finals also taking place at 6 p.m. along with the 400-yard freestyle relay.
