Box Score

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The Ithaca football team (4-3, 2-3 Empire 8) rallied back from a 14-0 deficit to take a fourth-quarter lead, but eventually fell 21-17 to #24 St. John Fisher (5-2, 2-2 Empire 8) in an Empire 8 game Saturday at Growney Stadium.

The Bombers fell behind 14-0 in the third quarter before mounting a comeback. After Fisher scored its second TD of the game, Ithaca responded with a scoring drive of its own. The drive covered 70 yards in three plays and was highlighted by a 42-yard run by Clay Ardoin and a 27-yard touchdown pass from Phil Neumann to Joseph Ingrao down the right sideline. Neumann made a pump fake on the double-move route to Ingrao, the defensive back bit on the play and Ingrao was open in the endzone.

Ithaca further turned momentum by forcing a fumble on the ensuing kickoff on a hard hit by Sam Carney that knocked the ball loose and Marc Recio recovered on the St. John Fisher seven yard line. The Bombers weren't able to punch it in, but Garrett Nicholson made a 23-yard field goal to make the score 14-10.

After St. John Fisher's next drive stalled, the Bombers took the lead with an impressive drive that covered 71 yards. Ardoin carried the load on the drive, rushing six times for 48 yards and he capped the drive with a 6-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter to put Ithaca in front for the first time in the game with 14:53 left in the game.

Fisher's final go-ahead touchdown came with 4:11 left in the fourth quarter. On a fourth-and-one play, Cody Miller broke through the line of scrimmage and went 36 yards to the endzone. Miller finished the game with 214 yards on 28 carries. He had three touchdowns.

Joseph Ingrao had seven receptions for 93 yards and the 27-yard touchdown. Neumann was 16-for-31 with a touchdown and two interceptions.

The Bomber defense forced two turnovers in the game. In addition to the kick return fumble, Brian Garvey made a first-half interception. Josh Liemer and Skyler Schlenker each had a sack. Schlenker had 11 tackles overall and Skylar Griffenberg had seven tackles.

Bomber punter A.J. Vallone had a great day with eight punts for a career-high 293 yards for a 36.6 average.

Ithaca returns to action Oct. 27 at home against Empire 8-leading #7 Salisbury. The game begins at noon at Butterfield Stadium in Ithaca.
