ITHACA, N.Y. -- The #4 Ithaca College women's soccer team (13-0-1) used a trio of first-half scores to blank visiting Farmingdale (8-7-0), 3-0, at Carp Wood Field on Saturday afternoon. Off to its best start in program history, Ithaca remained unbeaten on the season with the win.
The Bombers got the scoring started just six minutes into the game when junior
Ellyn Grant-Keane dribbled into the Farmingdale defense and delivered a pass to junior
Jackie Rodabaugh who put it in the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
Additional pressure from the Ithaca offense forced a corner kick just five minutes later that led to the second goal of the game. Senior
Julie Winn sent the corner kick in front of the goal where junior
Amanda Callanan headed the ball into the goal to give the Bombers the 2-0 Lead. The goal was
Callanan's sixth of the season.
The Bombers scored again with just 1:30 lingering in the first half as
Winn earned her second assist of the game on yet another corner kick. Junior
Meredith Jones capitalized on the cross from
Winn deflecting the ball into goal for her second score of 2012, and a 3-0 lead. Ithaca maintained the 3-0 lead for the entire second half.
Senior goalkeeper
Becca Salant tallied her 13th victory in net making seven saves. Farmingdale's best scoring chance came during the second half when it was awarded a penalty kick.
Salant saved the shot attempt to preserve her tenth shutout of the season. Freshman
Beth Coppolecchia was not forced to make a stop in 18:47 in goal.
The Bombers outshot the Rams 14-11 and maintained offensive pressure throughout the entire game, taking four corner kicks to Farmingdale's zero.
The Bombers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Utica for a 7 p.m. Empire 8 match.
