ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's and women's diving teams hosted the Dick Comanzo Memorial Diving Invitational Sunday at the Athletics & Events Center Aquatics Pavilion and a total of 14 NCAA provisional diving qualifying scores were posted. All events followed the championship format with 11 dives.
Ithaca divers captured the top three places in the men's 1-meter competition and those three Bombers all bettered the NCAA target score of 425. Freshman
Matt Morrison (Simsbury/Simsbury, Conn.) was first with a total of 447.45, slightly ahead of senior
Derek Rand (Amity/Orange, Conn.) with 446.05. Junior
Martin Brown (McLean/McLean, Va.) was third with a total of 443.40. Freshman
Leroy Farrell (Hauppauge/Smithtown) was ninth with a score of 399.65. There were 19 divers entered in the men's 1-meter, and five made the NCAA cut.
The men's 3-meter diving competition saw five NCAA qualifying scores (440 or higher) posted by a field of 19 entrants.
Brown placed second for Ithaca with a total of 498.15, and
Morrison was fifth with a score of 461.30.
In the women's 3-meter competition, Ithaca took first and second place behind the efforts of senior
Jodi Costello (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore
Korie Fackler (Central Dauphin East/Harrisburg, Pa.).
Costello was first with a score of 426.10 and
Fackler was second with a total of 421.20. Both met the NCAA qualifying score of 410, as did two other competitors among the 20 entrants.
Fackler and
Costello took first and second in the women's 1-meter event, as
Fackler scored 414.80 and
Costello totaled 383.55.
