Cortland, N.Y. - The Ithaca softball team (11-5) scored a 7-4 win over Cortland (13-3)  and then dropped the second game by a 6-5 score Thursday afternoon in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams at Dragon Field. Ithaca returns to Empire 8 play Saturday and Sunday at Alfred and RIT.

The Bombers scored three runs in the top of the third and added two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings in a game one victory. Ithaca was paced by a 4-for-4 day at the plate by freshman third baseman Julianne Vincent (Westhill/Stamford, Conn.), who scored two runs. Freshman Jackie Branco (West Essex/Roseland, N.J.) and sophomore Carianne D'Alessandro (Bridgewater-Raritan/Bound Brook, N.J.) each homered and drove in two runs.

Ithaca senior Allison Greaney (John F. Kennedy/Iselin, N.J.) earned the complete-game victory and improved to 4-1 on the year. She allowed just three earned runs and didn't have a single walk or strikeout in the game, yielding eight hits.

Cortland scored the decisive runs in a back-and-forth affair in the bottom of the sixth inning. There were six lead changes in the contest. The Bombers had seven hits from seven different players, including doubles from Lindsey Johnson (Manchester/Manchester, Conn.) and D'Alessandro. D'Alessandro's double drove in a run in the third inning, and she also walked in the top of the first with the bases loaded. Senior Britt Lillie (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Mendon) took the loss for Ithaca in relief of starter Jillian Olmstead (Caesar Rodney/Magnolia, Del.).
