Empire 8 Announces All-Conference Volleyball Awards

ITHACA, N.Y. – Three members of the Ithaca volleyball earned Empire 8 All-Conference honors. Senior Kate Thoene (Vorhees/High Bridge, N.J.) repeated as a first-team selection, while senior Jessica Hoeffner (Hauppage/Hauppage) received second-team accolades. Senior Karin Edsall (Cornwall Central/Cornwell) was named Ithaca's Sportswoman of the Year.

This is the third consecutive year that Thoene has garnered all-conference honors, having been selected to the first team in 2010 and named honorable mention in 2009. A District I All-Academic First Team selection in 2010, Thoene ranked second in the Empire 8 with 30 blocks (11 solo, 19 assists) during conference play. She sits fourth all-time at Ithaca with 483 total blocks (181 solo, 302 assists). Thoene recorded a conference-only hitting percentage of .335 on 80 kills, which places her at third and fourth in the league, respectively. She was named to four all-tournament teams during her time at Ithaca and was a three-time Empire 8 Player of the Week.

Hoeffner makes her second straight appearance on the all-conference team after earning first-team recognition as a junior. Named MVP of the Lycoming Tip-Off Classic in October, she ranks second in the conference in kills during Empire 8 action with 82 and ninth with a .262 hitting percentage. Hoeffner was selected Empire 8 Player of the Week on Oct. 25, 2010.

Edsall was recognized as Ithaca's Sportswoman of the Year as one member from each team was named as its school's representative. The Empire 8 emphasizes that "competing with honor and integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. Edsall and the other seven recipients have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen. She ranks sixth overall in the Empire 8 with 6.24 assists per set on 848 total assists.

The Bombers concluded their regular season on Saturday with a five-set victory, 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-9), against host Hunter at the Hunter Invitational.
