Scranton, Pa. - The Ithaca men's soccer team (1-3-3) earned its first win of the season with a 1-0 victory at Marywood (5-3-0) Wednesday afternoon. It was Ithaca's fourth shutout in seven games this season, and the first of the year for junior goalkeeper
Evan Kirshner (Haverford/Haverford, Pa.).
The game's only goal came early in the second half, on a corner kick by the Bombers. After the cross was delivered, sophomore defender
Ryan Norland (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) nodded the ball into the box, where another header was converted by sophomore forward
Max Grigri (Gateway Regional/Wenonah, N.J.). It was the first goal of the year for
Grigri, and the second of his career. It was
Norland's first assist of the year and second point of his career.
Ithaca held an 11-9 advantage in shots.
Kirshner made four saves to earn the shutout.
The Bombers begin Empire 8 play Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Carp Wood Field when Ithaca hosts Nazareth.
