ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's lacrosse team is making its seventh straight appearance in the Empire 8 tournament and will play at St. John Fisher in a semifinal game Friday at 4 p.m. The Bombers have won all three previous Empire 8 playoff games against the Cardinals - 13-6 in 2006, 10-8 in 2007 and 17-9 in 2008.

Ithaca won its last four regular-season games to qualify for the playoffs and finished the Empire 8 season with a 5-3 record. The Bombers have had a winning record in the league all nine years that the Empire 8 has existed.
The top-seeded Cardinals are ranked 11th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Poll with a 15-1 record, and were 7-1 in the Empire 8. Ithaca leads the all-time series against St. John Fisher 11-1. The Cardinals won the regular-season meeting 13-4 at Growney Stadium March 31.
Junior goalie David Gal (Loomis Chaffee/Amherst, Mass.) ranks 15th nationally in save percentage and has stopped 60.8 percent of the shots he's faced this year. Gal has made 10 saves or more in six of Ithaca's last seven games, during which the Bombers have allowed nine goals or fewer each time.
Sophomores Devin Weinshank (Long Beach/Long Beach) and Tom Mongelli (Kinnelon/Kinnelon, N.J.) share the goal-scoring lead for Ithaca with 27 goals each. Weinshank has eight assists and leads the team with 35 points, Mongelli has 32 points. Senior midfielder Nic Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) has a team-high 18 assists, including six in Ithaca's last outing, an 11-8 win over Stevens. Junior midfielder Jay Lucas (Fox Lane/Bedford Hills) has 15 assists.
Senior face-off specialist Nick Neuman (Madison West/Madison, Wis.) has won 58.2 percent of draws and leads the team with 70 ground balls. Senior defender Nick Powers (Bridgewater-Raritan/Bridgewater, N.J.) leads Ithaca with 23 caused turnovers.
Friday's winner will advance to Sunday's league championship game, which will be held at noon at the highest remaining seed. The other semifinal matches RIT and Nazareth.
