ITHACA, N.Y.--The women's lacrosse team stayed perfect in conference play after routing visiting Utica (3-4, 1-2 Empire 8) 19-10 Wednesday afternoon. The Bombers (4-3, 3-0 Empire 8) scored the game's first seven goals en route to a season-high score. Junior Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-LIma/Honeoye Falls) tallied four goals and four assists for a career-high eight points.
Ithaca's goal total was the highest since they netted 19 against Hartwick last season. The Bombers are averaging more than 15.6 goals in conference play this season.Dating back to last season, Ithaca has won five straight Empire 8 games.
Hurley had a hand in three of the Bombers' goals in their 7-0 game-opening run. She scored one goal and assisted on two others. Senior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) and freshman Michelle Avery (Brien McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) each scored a pair of goals during the run, with sophomore Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet, N.Y.) picking up two assists and a goal.
The Bombers score the final four goals of the first half and were up 14-4 at halftime.
McClure, Borisenok and freshman Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow) all finished with three goals. Freshmen Kim Armbruster (Montville/Boonton, N.J.) and Avery netted two apiece. McClure and senior Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) led Ithaca with four draw controls apiece. Bixby also grabbed four ground balls.
Senior Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) picked up her third win of the season in goal. She made six saves in the victory.
Ithaca continues its three-game homestand Saturday with a 1 p.m. against Stevens.
