Ithaca Gets Men's Lax Road Win

Elmira, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's lacrosse team (4-9, 2-3 Empire 8) outscored Elmira 9-3 in the second half and went on to a 16-9 victory over the host Soaring Eagles (6-6, 2-3 Empire 8) at Campus Field Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore attackman Devin Weinshank (Long Beach/Long Beach), sophomore attackman Tom Mongelli (Kinnelon/Kinnelon, N.J.) and junior midfielder Ryan Lowe (Fairport/Fairport) scored three goals each for Ithaca in a balanced scoring attack, which also included two-assist afternoons for senior attackman Mike Lohan (Calhoun/Merrick), junior midfielder Jay Lucas (Fox Lane/Bedford Hills) and Weinshank.

The Bombers pulled away at the end of the third quarter with three goals in the closing two minutes that stretched the lead from a 10-8 advantage to a five-goal margin, by Mongelli, Weinshank and sophomore midfielder Nick Munn (Canandaigua/Canandaigua). It was Munn's second goal of the game and his first two goals and points of the season. Senior midfielder Nick Neuman (Madison West/Madison, Wis.) also had two goals for the Bombers.

After allowing four goals in the first quarter, the Bomber defense clamped down and allowed just five over the next three quarters. Lohan and junior long-stick middie Matt Molnar (Central Bucks East/Doylestown, Pa.) each caused two turnovers and junior goalkeeper David Gal (Loomis Chaffee/Amherst, Mass.) made 13 saves.

The Bombers return to action Saturday with an Empire 8 game at Hartwick at 1 p.m.
