Rochester, N.Y.—The Ithaca softball team (19-9) split a doubleheader at #30 Rochester (18-13) Tuesday, winning game one 10-1 before dropping the nightcap 1-0.
The Bombers pounded out 13 hits in the opener, with junior second baseman Kait Dolan (Victor/Farmington), junior outfielder Brittany Lillie (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls), freshman outfielder Molly O'Donnell (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and junior outfielder Alyssa Guzman (Newburgh Free Academy/Newburgh) collecting three each. Guzman's total was a career high.
Senior Alyssa Brook (Monmouth Regional/Tinton Falls, N.J.) threw a complete-game three-hitter to raise her season record to 7-4. She struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.
Dolan's three-run home run sparked Ithaca's four-run second inning. It was the team's 20th home run of the year, marking the fourth time the Bombers have reached that total in a single season.
Junior third baseman Alison Greaney (John F. Kennedy/Iselin, N.J.) scored two runs and drove in two others; she drew a bases-loaded walk in the third and beat out a bunt to bring in a run in the fifth. Guzman added an RBI single later in the inning. Guzman also doubled in a run in the second.
Ithaca closed out the scorning with three seventh-inning runs. Lillie singled in a run and two more runs came around on Rochester errors; the Yellow Jackets made six in the game.
In game two, the Bombers allowed just five hits but Rochester scored an unearned run (taking advantage of both a passed ball and wild pitch).
The Bombers put the tying run on second in the top of the seventh – freshman center fielder Jennifer Biondi (Morris Knolls/Denville, N.J.) advanced to second on an infield error after reaching on a one-out error – but Rochester retired the final two batters.
Biondi had Ithaca's only other hit as well: a two-out single in the fourth with runners on first and second; the Bombers had a runner thrown out at home on the play.
Ithaca continues non-league competition Wednesday with a doubleheader at King's.
