Women's Lax Secures Playoff Spot With Win Over Alfred

Kylie McClure is the 16th Bomber to reach the 100-goal milestone

ITHACA, N.Y.--The Bombers clinched a berth in the Empire 8 playoffs with a 15-2 win over visiting Alfred (5-6, 1-5 Empire 8) Friday afternoon at Carp Wood Field. Four players had multi-goal games for Ithaca (7-4, 6-0 Empire 8), including senior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) and junior Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls), who both eclipsed 100 career goals in the win.

Hurley and McClure are now tied for 14th in Ithaca history with 100 goals apiece. They have 23 and 20 goals, respectively, on the season. Hurley scored three goals against the Saxons on Friday, with McClure scoring twice.

Sophomore Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) was tied with Hurley for the team lead with three goals and two points. Freshman Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow) scored two goals and added an assist. Sophomore Racquel Lividini (Mamaroneck/Mamaroneck) and freshmen Nicole Dahl (Wellington/Worthington, Ohio) and Samantha Whitney (Portsmouth/Rye, N.H.) all tallied a goal and an assist. Junior Lauren Fitzgerald (William C. Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) and Kim Armbruster (Montville/Boonton, N.J.) each contributed a goal.

Senior goalkeeper Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) and the Bomber defense held Alfred scoreless for more than the first 45 minutes of play. They limited the Saxons to just 11 shots in the game. Dowell made seven saves in the in, her sixth of the season.

The Bombers' two goals allowed were the fewest since they defeated Sweet Briar 16-2 in 2007.

Fitzgerald led all players with four ground balls. Hurley contributed three pickups while causing three turnovers.

The Bombers return to action Saturday, when they host Elmira at 1 p.m. With a win over the Soaring Eagles and a Nazareth loss to Stevens, Ithaca can clinch the top seed in the Empire 8 playoffs.
