Silipo Scores Three In Men's Lax Game at Oneonta

Oneonta, N.Y. – Oneonta (3-3) rallied in the second half and went on to a 9-7 win over the Ithaca men's lacrosse team (1-5) Wednesday afternoon at Oneonta's All-College Field. The Bombers were led by junior midfielder Michael Silipo (Williston Northampton/Deerfield, Mass.) scored a career-high three goals and junior goalie David Gal (Loomis Chaffee/Amherst, Mass.) made a career-high 26 saves.

Ithaca opened the scoring in the first quarter on a goal from sophomore attackman Tom Mongelli (Kinnelon/Kinnelon, N.J.) on an assist from senior attackman Mike Lohan (Calhoun/Merrick). It was the only goal of the quarter.

The Bombers led 4-2 at halftime after three second-quarter goals, two scored by Silipo and the first of the year from junior midfielder Jay Lucas (Fox Lane/Bedford). Sophomore attackman Devin Weinshank (Long Beach/Long Beach) scored early in the third quarter to help keep Ithaca ahead, but Oneonta scored three straight goals and led 6-5 before freshman attackman Andrew Bruce (De La Salle/Lafayette, Calif.) knotted the score 6-6 with 4:04 left in the third.

Oneonta went on another three-goal run, but Silipo's third of the game and sixth goal of the season brought the Bombers within two late in the game. They didn't get any closer. Gal's career-high 26 saves highlighted the defensive effort for the Bombers.

It was Ithaca's sixth consecutive road game to open the year, and Ithaca will travel to Maritime Saturday afternoon.
